The pharmacy department being an integral part of the healthcare team is responsible for the outcomes associated with medicine use process. The department undertakes the following activities;
- Educate and counsel patients and healthcare professionals on the safe use of medicines
- Ensure the safety and security of medicines in procurement, transportation and storage
- Ensure the safety and security of medicines in dispensing standard
- Undertake the management of patients taking retroviral drugs
- Undertake training programs for both staff and students
- Undertake extemporaneous drugs such as calamine lotions, paracetamol syrups and others
- Participation in the preparation for claims submission to National Health Insurance Scheme (NIHS)
These activities are managed by the pharmacist, with support from the dispensing technologist and counter medicine assistants.
